The spell of nocturne in the strangled forest of thought

By aquiouss

These thoughts

These thoughts... consume me...
decorate me ...

Saturate my skin in pearls of sweat
as I sway uncomfortably in the dank theater of my skull

These thoughts cover me ...

like blankets of shame, useless and full of holes and mites
as I struggle all night though terrible irritated sleeplessness

These thoughts...

elevate me, present me to brilliant winged monsters,
light spilling through their deep set orbs, like nighttime carnivals in an oasis

These thoughts...
present me with victory marches through wormy rabbit holes

These thoughts. ..
Bite me with their snarling gnarled jowls..
those rabid curled-up, tar-black lips,
that tear me asunder under moons of hopelessness...

....and their mortuary cold steel eyes stare headlong into my grey nowhere soul,
as I stitch my wounds together through the vicious sunlit day

These thoughts
embrace me, completely... like I'm the only warmth left in this mad collapsing void

And these thoughts....without a smile, nor word,
nor touch
abandon me...
like illegitimate step children
like sex crimes on the highway
like forgotten upturned bikes amidst a mess of cries
like a mother's final warning

Excellent presentation and description. I was especially taken by the "snarling gnarled jowls" bit; it implies that those thoughts have been there for a long time. Also your final stanza wraps it all up so neatly and in such a beautiful way. This is a damn good poem.
