The Reinvention of the Calculus and the Wheel and Lever
By quantummysticist18
Life is an anarchist chess match
And the Queen will always spare her own life
To protect the King,
While Knights and Bishops trade places
And Pawns give themselves in to bloody sacrifice.
That makes me the Rook,
Sliding across the board in a manner most clever.
This sequence of numbers must have a pattern
For if the conch shell lacks its one true spiral,
Then the world is truly meaningless.
Within the grotto of the music
You might well discover all the treasure
That the dragons have misplaced.
The hourglass dictates this story,
Mouth pressed up against the microphone like a kiss,
Whispering white noise into the system.
It is impossible to detect the origin of your accent,
So the sounds of the languages we speak
Will reverberate in air that might as well be Martian.
We all wish that three would follow two
But it simply refuses,
Leaving us no choice but to reinvent the calculus of time.
The wheel and lever turn out to be impossibly complicated technology,
Far too complex to faithfully recreate.
We'll go through each revolution again and again
Until humanity finally reaches the understanding
That a smile is enough to batter down the jail cell walls
And flee into the night together,
Riding the moon into the sky
And joining the stars in infinity.
