A Veritable Götterdämmerung

By quantummysticist18

I covertly carry out a chemistry experiment
To find a panacea for all the holes in my heart,
The ones you've left scattered across my chest
With the submachine gun of your absence.
When all my friends are dying of poetic starvation
And the memories of a quincunx of firebrand prodigies
Light up the dark night inside my skull,
My shadow stalks me down the cobblestone alleyways
Where meat was once packed
And I surreptitiously adjust my fedora.
Happiness appears to have taken a bank holiday.
The heraldic symbol will follow you throughout your journey
So never forget the sparrowhawk,
That mascot of the subconscious roller coaster
Of elation and of devastation.
In this twilight of the gods, as it were,
It is clear that those who bear the mark must unite
Or else we will all end up tragically alone,
Begging for bread at the doorsteps of the fortunate.
