Mirror
By Talia
A means to an end, I look for it
falling and tripping and slipping on myself
looking in mirrors of icicle glass
ripples marr my vision.
I can't see myself, only shadows exist
shattered mind fragments, quick as mercury,
rolling off my tongue, down my throat, sweet suffocation.
Filaments of web intertwine, and erase
what looms in that pale reflection,
ready to sink claws to flesh, nail to bone,
tearing me apart, leaving me open.
I can't bear it. I turn away,
sink into myself, to safety,
pray I can remain.
But my self rejects the soul. Naked. Alone. Defenseless.
Sinking to cold concrete,
feels like judgement beneath calloused hands,
I shatter
like glass
fine fragments, unmendable
unWhole

Your words are so vivid and powerful. This poem, especially towards the end, is so dramatic; I love it. ....-samone
