The sun beat down our face and cast shadows
Only like marble statues could.
The air in my face made me breathe.
I close my eyes and say
“this is how it’s supposed to be.”
As your hand holds my hand.

I felt like a shell you were built in
As you fell apart in my arms.
Sobbing tones and fluent tears
Rolled down and out and into me.
I sat there cradling you
With all my love,
And everything you took out of me.

The last spell didn’t last.
I was desperate to be in your arms.
I took one look at you and knew
That it was over;
I smiled and smirked to myself
Because I knew you wouldn’t let me
Be mad at you.

I woke up and found you
Eyes shut and gentle breaths.
Couldn’t move-
I couldn’t let this moment pass.
Frozen there, I start to weep.
I knew you are it for me.
I watched you sleep,
And hoped you dream.
