Weight of the World

By fenix2337

"like Atlas carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, i am carrying the weight of a thousand hopes and dreams never to come true."

across the black sky
a shooting star lights the night.
a light so brilliant,
however, eventually fades.
like all hopes and dreams,
sooner or later it's gone away.
though the dreams fade,
and the hope will tarnish,
the weight of it all remains.
thoughts of things never to come,
memories of all chances missed,
and nightmares of all things gone,
they leave a burning impression
that can never be dismissed.
with the weight of the world
pressing on your conscience,
how long will it take,
before you lose grip,
crumble, and break?

voices echo in my mind,
telling me to give-in,
and see that happiness i'll never find.
turn and run again,
hide from it all.
close your eyes and jump,
before you take the fall.
stand still,
as to never create a past.
ignore the future,
and tell the present to kiss your ass!

what was once a shallow rut,
it's growing to the depth of a grave.
i need something in return
for all i have gave.
too long have i paid my dues,
too long i've been yearning a love true.
too long i've been hoping,
praying for a chance with you.
too long my dreams have faded,
like the tail of the star shooting across the sky,
too long have i held the weight of the world,
i fear i can no longer try.
i've lost all desire,
i've given all i can give,
i fear soon i will surrender,
and run as i already did.

across the night sky,
the star lost it's light,
sunk back into the depths of dark,
never to be seen again,
like withered dreams
and failed hopes,
the star burnt out
before reaching where it needed to go.
