The Insomnia Blues (lost in familiar territory)

By drop dead des

Starved of sleep
five days going on six
My brain feels like mush
Listen to how it sloshes
when I lean my head to one side

A million thoughts
pass through my mind
as I float on the outside
Watching myself from afar
I am so lost in thought that I fear
I will never find my way back

(How silly you look, little girl
With your glazed over eyes
and your hair all a mess
Your back against the wall
Like a defiant child on time-out)

Light creeps through dusty blinds
awaking me from my stupor
Only to realize
I've missed my chance
Another sleepless night
