Ordinary
By no_independence
I've recently com to an intriguing and rather depressing conclusion.
I am completely and absolutely normal. I assure you that this was a hard
concept to accept considering that for a very long time my objective has
been to be abnormal or even extraordinary. But in todays society it is
normal to be abnormal. Now don't get me wrong, I am sure there are exceptions,
I just don't believe that they are the goths who worship satin to piss
off their parents. No, I think the exceptions but I think they are harder
to find because they aren't abnormal for attention and they may infact
blend in perfectly because it is easier to. I am certain that as I write
this these ideas are most likely not original, actually I bet the origins
are an exception.
So why is it that abnormal is ordinary? I believe it is the lack
of true meaning in our lives, so we scramble to create our own though it
is sometimes shallow. This lack of meaning comes from the "American Dream".
We go to school for years and years to get a decent job so you can make
yourself and the people around you comfortable. Then you retire and realize
that you have wasted your entire life working and have nothing to show
except for at best money and perhaps kids who will most likely have a life
just like yours. Then... you die and if whomever writes on your gravestone
is thruthful then it will read "Here Lies (insert name) he/she Worked Hard".
With these prospects being "normal" it is no wonder I want to be otherwise.
So I bitch and complain about parents and society because I lack the courage
to change them. I hope I find that courage and my gravestone reads "Here
Lies Briana She Changed Ordinary".
But your opinion is your own.

I sincerely hope that your gravestone says what you want it to. After all, don't we all want to change the world? Look at how many "ordinary" people have done it. Think about that, and maybe you will build up a little more courage to meet your goals.
