the wilderness

By evinkay

there is a prophet to lead us
an old killer to guide
he hears voices from heaven
and is bitter inside

we follow a cloud in the day
and pray to a fire in the night
subsist on whatever this is
that falls from the sky

the devil and his angels
surround us on all sides
there is nothing in sight
between the dust and blue sky

tear it down to rebuild again
purple scarlet and gold
a fire burned them alive
the earth swallowed them whole

the stench of death in the air
the ground littered with bones
there is blood on the desert floor
and a strange pressure in my head

the devil and his angels
surround us on all sides
there is nothing in sight
between the dust and blue sky
