An Empty Locket
By watercolor
Lilac ablutions reveal the solitaire's auguries
portent flags-high up there- descriable from everywhere
is not a neighbor a disciple?
we will see through the same water-eye
the clouds painted on the cave ceiling
coinciding like Peter with the Mermaids
The dead can't fall to their death
they circumambulate the stone wall
a grey fox climbs the fir tree
pawing at a spider crawling on the moon
builder of this fractal net
curtain to the abode of the asomatous flower
Old venom from the south
wayward through the sun-shifting valley
there is no land left under the clan's name
blood feuds are the sole inheritance
the only gold and silver that shines
a silent promise, an empty locket.
