Saudade

By Anarchist

We sat back to back
Like two sides of a coin
Distanced by the severed feeling
Unaware if it's beyond healing
Still my heart skipped a beat
Trying to make memories recede
Jaded by the moments faded
Crushing me down as I concede.

Promises were made and words spoken
Never realized they were meant to be broken
Never realizing last times we spent
Never realized it would ever end.
Along came a time I didn't even know
To hold you back or to let you go
Stuck in the puddle sinking day after day
No amount of chemicals could make this go away
Weary of living in the past I decided to
Move on, not mellow in despair
As one doesn't drown falling in the water
He drowns by staying there.

My 500 days of summer is over
Heartbroken, but I will survive
I'll live through the heartache
I'll live through the pain
But I won't let myself call you
Or bother you again
You'll always be 'the one' I admire
Remember me that is all I desire
And as two wrongs don't make a right
So I'm letting go of you without a fight.

One day you'll fall in love again
You might love someone else then
I'll hide my tears and fake a cheer
Now so distant who was once so near
Fake a Joy you'll never know was untrue
I'll walk away from it all knowing I still loved you.
Nothing I ever wished more than your smile
Though distanced by a thousand miles
Even if the reason you're happy isn't me
I'll smile and say "It was meant to be".

The lump that formed in my throat as I read this is an unmistakable sign of a talent which is rarely unleashed in full power. But you unleashed it. Great write (even if it is a very emotional read).
