Enslaving Lie

By silverwolf

In a place long forgotten
at a time never known
a God walked the earth
and felt utterly alone.
So It took two handfuls of earth
and formed two figures like Its own,
and breathed the breathe of Life,
animating flesh and bone.

One was called Lilith
Adam was the other.
Each was the other’s comfort;
they were meant to love another.
They lived in bliss
never quarreling, never fighting,
their love was a candle
never needing relighting.

Soon the time came
when Adam felt wronged,
robbed of a steady position,
his part in the first eternal bond.
He felt it was his right
to be the leader, and her to follow,
with her doing his bidding
and at his feet, she was to wallow.

Lilith wanted none of that
she refused him point blank.
The smell of slavery didn’t appeal;
the stench of servitude positively stank.
So when God came
to command her to obey,
she rebuked
and said she couldn’t stay.

Then Adam turned to his Creator,
to beg, and to plea
for another just like Lilith,
but who would cater to him on bended knee.
From Adam’s side,
from a bone, was made Eve,
a woman meant to serve,
and someone who’d never leave.

A distance away,
Lilith watched with dismay
as a new woman waited on Adam,
granting every wish on a silver tray.
And from the lips of her Maker
came the hate-filled exile,
added to the condemning glare
only made her want to spit back bile.

The first woman created
was evicted from paradise,
left to fend for herself,
left to freeze in the ice.
She was her own person,
never willing to adhere
to the ‘delicate’ ways of women;
refusing to ever fear
an equal in every way,
one who holds no power,
she will not turn and run,
she will face them, never cower.
Yet, in our history she is the evil being
because she wouldn’t serve another
and lose her individuality.
