Bitter
By JayVerael
Your words are like sour candy on my tongue
Overflowing with a flavor that causes my nose to scrunch
In an uncomfortable way and my lips to purse
As though recoiling from the dialect
And although the knowledge of my reaction is well known to me
I find cracked petals parting slightly to receive
The acid rain
A mockery to the act of photosynthesis
For the only thing I seem to digest
Is your sour candy apple sarcasm
Coated in loose remnants of an even sharper flavored zest
Here comes the sting, the slight tingling of dry kisses
Getting into every crease and line
Flaws I know you’d noticed along with that expression
You seem to love so much
You cannot have one without the other I’m afraid
It’s little sacrifice in comparison to the
Pursing, scrunching, twisting uncomfortable motion
Of my face when you say
I love you.
