nothing is as it seems

By Jennanselmo

There is a condition to every rule, a different view point that is left to be seen
Not one thing is permanent, nothing is as it seems
I think outside of your box because I refuse to accept your terms
You embrace ignorance while I choose to study and learn
And I am the personification of our need for something more
This emotion seems to always to be hiding right outside of our door
Laughing, making jokes, pointing fun at what makes us weak
The moment we open that door is the moment we learn how to speak
Everything is based on ratios, the likelihood of a particular action
Our government is biased and separated us into factions
We just woke up one day and were told how to act
Countless years of faithfulness yet we still don’t know the facts
I have a hope for humanity, a prayer of good will
That one day we will communicate rather than kill
Our innocence was stolen from us, it drowned in the rivers of red
That separate and surround us from saying words we wished we had said
I can detach myself from my body and watch myself on stage
Just a person in an audience observing the mistakes we have made
