This Deceptively Deep Pond

By Flying indigo express

I wandered by accident next to a moonlit pond
The surfaced rippled then it was gone

With my toe I touched the edge
Starlight fog a fairy kiss upon my head

Fear and delight, mixed with the night
Gazing into a reflection of the sky

A deep breath came in then out
What could've been a silent shout

With nowhere else to go, I pulled back my toe
Took one last look to the sky just to know

Splash...

I went in

An ocean cleverly hid

Take heed

And let all be

A Leviathan this way comes

Author's Note:

I've been moving all this week, and the "Ocean at the End at the of the Lane" was sitting right next to the door. The connection began. It's an exceptional read by Neil Gaimon

  • A former member wrote: You mean *Neil Gaiman, but no matter, that man's a genius. This took me back to when I was a lad, when I loved to explore deep ponds on the countryside, pretending them to be gateways to other worlds, imagining all manner of beast & leviathan to hinder my aquatic quest for escape. The reality at the bottom was always algae & mud, but ya can't fault a boy for tryin', eh? You've also created a nice metaphor here for not judging based upon appearances. Good stuff all around.

Also, insightful comments. Your angle created enough space for me to get an objective view of the work.
