Wounds and Tears
By DeafSoldier
She saw me in the hospital for the first time.
My face was wrapped in bandages.
I lay in bed, out of combat but in pain.
I cry like I haven't cried in ages.
As my tears seep though the bandages,
As they sink into my scarred, burning skin,
As she looks onto me for the first time in months,
I look back, and I smile under my bandages.
I was with my battle buddies,
Somewhere in the heat of battle.
I listen to the men yell,
As I listen to the machine guns rattle.
A grenade lands nearby,
As I throw my body on top,
My men continue fighting,
As I bleed and burn.
I was airlifted home.
My body's torn and disfigured.
I'm crippled, and I look horrendous,
I don't want my wife to see me like this...

A superb poem! Great word usage. It puts you right there in the room with the wounded soldier.

Most of this poem reflects what I've been through. Fortunately not to that extent. Good write

I was watching the Medal of Honor ceremony for Cpl. Kyle Carpenter and I decided to write this. I wrote this for all service members, regardless of country.
