Insanity

By damien6102

A madness begins to take hold of my mind
An ooze that envelopes the repose
That begs me to dream for sweet dreams to find

'Til at last a gloom settles too strong to oppose
But immersion into such infinite sleep
Gives the shadows opportunity to impose

Looming upon me, trapped in darkness so deep
King once virtuous now feared and despised
Who can take pleasure, yet regret; laugh, yet weep

Those sad eyes so focused, divine orders incised
As regal words spill forth, unable to divide
The bitter truths from bitter lies disguised

As doubt swims through me and I try to decide
Dark beast leaps forth, vengeful claws and fangs bared
Savage yet graceful as eyes and blades collide

My mind swirls briefly, so bewildered and scared
Before conflict dies, instinct toppling regime
As a final qualm echoes, that he always cared

And as I awaken from my dreadful dream
The facts from the fiction, I cannot deem
While madness takes hold, and I must scream.
