In The Darkness

By Bittersweet Life

Thinking, thinking, in the darkness
Lonesome, loathsome, sleep evading
Mind is blurring, stirring, in the darkness
Yearning, turning, thoughts disastrous
Eyes are dreary, weary, sore and burning
My brain befuddled, muddled, deprived of rest
A voice calls hither, "Why art thou in darkness?"
The voice was near, clear, in the darkness
My mouth replied, 'fore i realized
"Why should i not be?" said I
Not seeing the speaker, The Reaper, perhaps, I thought
The speaker spoke, my mind awoke, and I cast a light across the empty room
For empty it was, I was alone, as I had known
The speaker was but my imagination
My mind alert, my pupils burnt, I pondered the speakers'  words
For they were not my own
"Darkness is but the end of all things, do not linger there more than you must, it is cold, and full of loneliness, and you will have more than you can bear, when the time comes."
Perhaps it was The Reaper, the speaker
Lured by my weakened will and wicked thoughts
"When the time comes." Echoes in my mind, and I smile
I empty the room of light, and settle back into the darkness, thinking, thinking

While I was reading this I was reminded of The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe. It appears as though this reflects a spiral downward into insanity. Interesting. Nice write.
