Diamonds Are Forever

By FrozenButterfly

My tears fell silently to the worn carpeted floor
And still he slapped and swore and hit, demanding even more
And when I'd cry and ask him why
All that he'd say to me in reply
Was that diamonds are forever
The ring on my left finger was cheap silver
That left a green stain, a dirty bathtub ring
All around my finger
And even still it lingers
You're my gem he'd whisper silently
All the while striking me violently
And my ruby blood would make him chuckle greedily
Because my pain offered him the richest joy imaginable
And every time I cried I died a little bit inside
Each smack and thump would make me sob the harder
Until the day I realized he was a thief, a robber
Stealing little pieces of my soul
That was the day I fought back
When for the last time he replied
Diamonds are forever
I snapped
And my tears grew hot and my eyes burned red
Fueled by countless years of hurt and hatred
And I kicked and bit and stabbed
As his pearly bones revealed
A treasure trove of his own
And I realized then the meaning
Those little gems
Of life he'd whisper of
As he called me his little jewel, his dove
And spoke of a strange demented thing called love
And he begged and pled for his life
As I lifted up the knife
I watched the tears leak from his eyes
Those tears that gave me strength as he released
My pent up sorrow
As those floodgates broke,
Returning to me what he had taken
He raised one hand and wiped away a tear
And I told him not to worry
As I slipped the knife softly into his beating heart
As I whispered softly into his ear
Because diamonds are forever
