Trapped

By Midnight Seduction

A powerful hand collides with my face
Causing my head to spin
Sending me to the floor in a downward spiral
Cursing loudly
He approaches
Blocking my only door way to escape
Pressing myself helplessly against the wall
I wimper softly
Awaiting the next blow to rain upon me
In the last few minutes of my consciousness
Time stands still
The events of the evening replay in my mind

The sun slowly sinks below the horizon
Closing off all remaining light
I patiently anticipate the return of the brutal beast
The blinding lights of a beat down blue truck
Illuminate the house
Shining a warning brightly through the windows
Slamming noisily
The door of the vehicle closes
And he emerges
Stumbling drunkenly towards the porch
He steps out of the cloud of surrounding darkness
Accompanied by the mist and fog
Of the chilly and damp night air
Fumbling with a ring of keys
Finally selecting the proper one
The door swings open
And loudly knocks into the living room wall
The sickening stomach churning smell
Of alcohol and stale cigarette smoke
Fills the rooms of the entire house
Babbling words with out meaning
He searches frantically for his choice target
Bellowing loudly
He calls out my name
The booming voice echoes through the hall
Reaching the room where I hide
I shutter at the sound
Feet pounding on the stairs
Swaying from side to side
Bumping loudly into walls
He finds the top of the staircase
Following the path of the narrow hallway
The thudding of foot steps comes to an end
As he reaches his destination of the bedroom
Knowing exactly what will come next
Heavy breathing and angry grumbles
Ring in my ears
His massive hand slowly turns the door knob
Grasping wildly in the dark
Picture frames and perfume bottles crash to the floor
The lamp drops and shatters into a thousand glass daggers
Eyes blazing with fury
His attention diverts to me
Bracing myself for the worst
I readily accept the fate that is dealt to me
Large lumbering steps charge towards me
Initiating the first striking shot of this battle
He catches my arm
And sends my body crashing into the wall
Grasping a handful of hair
He throws me to the wooden floor
There is nothing but my body to break the fall
I muster all my strength
And bring myself to my feet
But his colossal hand
Knocks me to the ground yet again
Only this time I can not get up
Laying motionless on my side
Tears spring to my eyes
Burning like acid as they roll down my cheeks
At last he ends the war
Turns and exits the same way he entered
Cursing loudly and viciously
Leaving me all alone
A foul copper odor enters my nostrils
And I realize the floor is speckled and spotted
With crimson stains
As i remain unmoving
In a large puddle of my own spilled blood
A thousand thoughts spring to my mind
I begin to wonder what I did to deserve this fate

After what seems like hours
My brutal beater
Returns to the scene of destruction
From the beams of pale moonlight
Tears glisten on his cheeks
The reality of his actions become apparent
Kneeling down beside me
He whispers apologies
Claiming he never meant for this to happen
It will never happen again
He utters the words I love you
Before he passes out
For the remainder of the never ending night
At the same moment
My own reality strikes like lightning
As long as he professes his love to me
I will never be able to escape this hell
That other people refer to as life
