Accidental death

By Midnight Seduction

I inhale deeply
Sit up straight
And take a glance around
A cold spring storm pours down
The moon sneaks up into the sky
Red and blue lights surround the site
People in uniforms clumped together
Others gather to observe
I am intrigued by this
Off to the side of the road
The remains of what were once vehicles
In the center of the chaos
Blood spills over the once gray pavement
Sparkling with shards of glass
Mixed with shimmering metal
My focus falls on a body
I slowly approach the situation
An eerie realization occurs
I recognize the face
It is mine
Looking into my vacant eyes
My mind flashes back
Driving home
In a hurry
Wanting to escape the storm
The sun has already set
Darkness starts to fill the sky
In the on coming traffic
Standing water
A car drives through
Loses control
Swerves into my lane
I see it coming
There's no where to go
I hit  the brakes
The car stops
There's nothing else to do
I brace myself for the impact
The incident plays in my mind
Over and over again
Thoughts come flooding to me
So much in my life unaccomplished
I'll never get to say goodbye
Taken in my prime
Life has been cut short
None of this matters now
A wave of calmness floods over me
The sky opens up
Reveals a white light
I go to it
