Severed Tie

 Lay your weary head upon my chest.
Feel my heart beat to remember we're alive.
You can't deny that you're the best.
Hold on tight to hope and we'll survive.

Butterflies are only pretty in the light.
I've broken your heart, so now you're torturing mine.
These abstract feelings predict that my eyes will cease to shine.
What will I do when I finally realize that we're not meant to be?

Reason cannot fool me,
I can see behind the spoken words to find an undercover meaning.
The pinnacle of these lies: "Our love can go on."
But for how long?
You're not here to feel my beating heart break,
I'm not there to see your cheating face.

Reason cannot coax me out of loving you.
Your heart was all that I had known,
your thoughts where something I never knew.
The sky now looks red like blood.
I curse to the being that created this devastating flood.

My world has been turned into something surreal.

Feel the words I spoke to you about how I felt inside.
