The Hunter's Prey
By heterodynemind
He had thought she would be his jeweled trophy,
His Ornithoptera Proesus, but instead
He found out that she had claws and teeth-
And an instinctive knowing, when to use them against him.
She threw his impeccable food offerings upon the floor, snarling;
She would rather go without, than have anything he had procured.
She was too smart, and she used all her knowing to humiliate him.
This was not how he had envisioned it would be,
Apparently his mother was not so wrong about females,
All those years ago before she died, at his hand.
Females were dangerous and never did what you wanted,
And they seemed to sense your expectations
(Even if you didn't know you had any; so how did they
accomplish that bit of enchantment?)
It was obvious he needed to get rid of this one, and keep on hunting
Till he found another one, more subservient to his needs.
The venom had served this one well- but even he had his limits.
Perhaps he just needed to train the next one
Into the creature he wanted her to become.
Maybe he was too lenient before, but not anymore: they'd see!
Still, it was the most exhilarating thing one could do in life,
Hunting another deadly being like yourself- some of the most dangerous
prey alive-
And he'd keep doing it till he got it right, and he was planning on enjoying
this,
Every minute of it. He picked up the bindings and plastic ties
And unlocked the door to the dungeon. He slid the stun gun just slightly
Out of his pocket for her eyes, and was amazed to finally see a little
respect
Light upon her face- just for an instant.
Ah yes, he was every bit as implacable as she was, though slightly more
Low-key..perhaps she could learn her lessons, after all;
He just hadn't gone about it in a way she could comprehend, until now..
"Hi Darlin, ready for our next lesson, are we?"
She stood up on all fours and yawned as if to say, so why don't you show
me something
I've never seen before..as her fangs gleamed, in the dimness of the cell..
