Your Smile (To My Fallen Hero)

By Grey Lies

if you only had 10 seconds to say good-bye,
what would you say?
scratch that.
what did you say?

step up to the line.
not pass the line.
not on the line.
repeat.

drilling the drills to drill.
black lacquer spilling from my toes.
arms chained down to a new lover.
in circles we marched on.

hills rolled unto bigger hills.
up and down we went
but in truth you knew i always went up
but always ended down.

alas, grey walls welcomed me to my new highland home.
i marched through the port of redemption.
i followed in history's footsteps willingly
knowing that those very walls were caving behind me.

many fell behind.
i was the weakest link.
yet i knew one day i would survive to see
that smile.

our eyes met at a bar.
yet it was your smile that drew me in.
it was then i knew
that you would become that history.

naive. cynical. a fool's fool i was.
everything seemed monotone.
lack of colour,
lack of humanity.

in circles i went.
a horrible song on repeat.
a bottle hushed me to sleep
singing beautiful lullabies of freedom.

in the end.
i still went up and up.
but i never left the down.
but i remembered.

i remembered.
that time.
when you let me.
pull your leg hair.

you smiled.
contagious.
that smile.
your smile.

it's the only thing that keeps me going.
you have made history.
its only fair that its my turn.
to protect that history.

not because of
duty.
honour.
country.

but beacuse of
a smile.
that smile.
your smile.

Be Thou At Peace My Dearest Brother.
Thank You For Your Sacrifice.
Such A Beautiful Sacrifice.
Please Save That Smile.
