West Shore Baby
By TakeMeAsIAm
I made our bed before I left
as if it were the first time:
carefully
smoothing the pale green sheets,
tangles of sea foam that we spent
the nights swimming in.
I made our bed before I left.
My
tangerine pillow snuggled against yours.
A perfect reflection of the
tiny piece of my life
you allowed me to entwine with yours.
I made our bed before I left.
If I had known that someone else
would be sleeping in it with you
I wouldn't have come home at all...

wow..I knew from the first two stanzas that something sad was coming, but the last few lines hit me nonetheless..I love the pretty imagery set up here, the pale green sheets and the tangerine pillow..the color in this piece made the ending that much more striking.
