West Shore Baby

By TakeMeAsIAm

I made our bed before I left
as if it were the first time:
carefully smoothing the pale green sheets,
tangles of sea foam that we spent the nights swimming in.

I made our bed before I left.
My tangerine pillow snuggled against yours.
A perfect reflection of the tiny piece of my life
you allowed me to entwine with yours.

I made our bed before I left.
If I had known that someone else would be sleeping in it with you
I wouldn't have come home at all...
