They Will Take Their Fee

By pureevil8

I see the creatures of the night have begun to stir,

Emerging from the darkest places of my mind.

They have come to play with me,

To take me away from this horrid reality,

And protect me from my weak emotions.

They have always been there,

Even when the world turned me away,

Cold and alone,

They were there to carry me back home,

Back into the endless night of my own mind,

Where all thoughts of pain would disappear,

And I could feel safe again.

All they want in return is my love.

So many search  for an escape from this world,

Bruised and broken by the unforgiving eye of humanity,

All they desire is an end to the pain,

Some shred of serenity amidst the chaos,

Just one minute of peace in their heart.

I guess that makes me the lucky one,

Finding an end to the madness,

And all it cost me was love,

Such a weak emotion anyway.a
