a gift

By JingaBelle

3 AM and I'm sitting alone
the air is perfectly still
I think if I can sit long enough
no sound no thought
just soak up the peacefulness of this moment
I just might make it
I close my eyes
I breathe
the air is full of earthy perfume
the aroma of flora and fauna waft gently on the wings of fireflies
I feel the world alive around me
the trees cast me a lofty gaze
I welcome their company
they know all my secrets for I've told them many a time
they have nothing else to do but to listen and remember
and be
I envy their existence
above, ever-present, nothing but the necessary
timeless compared to me
ages to ponder why we are all here
In the quiet I feel connected to the earth around me
I am in it, of it, and a child spawned from it
I realize I am not alone
I open my eyes, thankful for the gift of this moment
peacefully sleepy now I stumble to my bed
cradled beneath my trees
