Concrete Sidestepping

~Concrete Sidestepping~

everybody listens
talk talk
like ants dancing
to the same beat
cruel concrete steps
before me
block after block
talk talk
talk talk
million dollar sidewalks
lined with 17000 starving
turned away.

heavy boots in summer
my toes grasped in leather
i cant dance today
just talk talk
just walk walk
on ant infested
sidewalks.

tears twisting faces
exposing inner frailty
on gnarled cheeks
festering pain
wimpering inside
noiselessly alongside
the moving crowd
too heavy a load
for one small
ant like me.

screaming soundlessly
(help me)
in cementward turned eyes
block after block
talk after talk
walk walk this line dance
everyone flocking to
listen
talk talk
walk walk
and listen again.

silence speaks
munch’s scream
all for one
not one for all
talk talk
mock mock
just keep moving
but dont fall.

alone in this
sea of arms
held tightly in
pressing breasts
lungs compressed
keeping, holding
tightly hope
lifted high
put up and shut up
and don’t talk.

knife to hand
hand to heart
these cement lines
keep us apart.
keep to the line
but watch the cracks
or you’ll break
your spine.
