  • "I was gonna write more on this just because it was pretty cogent and raised a question that is at the heart of philosophy, the status of the idea, the thought and the relation of thinking itself to ourselves, even aside from questions of sanity or 'normalcy' in thinking. Most would say we control our thoughts, but that's like saying we can control our feelings, which seems counter intuitive; even if we have some degree of influence over each, it seems that degree will fluctuate among the population as well as within the individual over the course of a lifetime. Descartes offered 'I think, therefore I am... cogito ergo sum,' suggesting in the tradition of Plato that we are primarily intellectual beings (offering the hope for christians that the intellect survives death) temporarily enjoying a physical presence. However, Nietzsche countered this by claiming that the 'I' in the 'I think' is already an assumption of being, so there is no inferential relationship between thinking and being but rather a question that is begged by the statement, 'I think'. Fritz would rather question whether or not thought is something that comes to us, that comes from beyond our consciousness (prior to Freud), offering that thinking is prior to any 'I'. In this way of thinking, thinking is something that happens to us, we are not the originators of thought, but rather an effect of it. Thinking precedes us, and creates us, to some extent, thus the risk in thinking is nothing short of who we are; what we venture in thought, even if it does not translate directly into action immediately, is at least immediately creating who we are, and, Heidegger would add later, establishing the mindset, the attitude and mood of us in the world (creating our relation to the world). Perhaps in thinking, in each moment we are consumed by thought, we are not just passing time, but recreating ourselves, our personalities, our beliefs and values, our priorities and perspectives, our very understanding of ourselves and the world. Is it not in reflection that we learn from our mistakes, or not, and plan for our future based upon what we interpret (and/or judge/evaluate) of the world around us? Just a few more thoughts for your thoughts, thanks.... back to work, all the best. "

  • "indeed great quote from Hamlet, D. I agree though our thoughts are what we make of them. We all have a bit of madness that creeps in... its just how we respond to them which identifies us! well written, indeed :} "

  • ""Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles....Thus conscience does make cowards of us all; And thus the native hue of resolution Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought, And enterprises of great pith and moment With this regard their currents turn awry, And lose the name of action..." I'm sure you recognize this tidbit :) just what came to mind as I read... thanks for the thoughtfulness and welcome back."

  • "Welcome back said person. I'm Lux. Probably after your time. Well written though. I enjoyed in particular the bigger bolder words. They etched just the right amount of stress into the work. And... good thought. =)"
