Oh, it certainly could be both. Metaphor by definition isn't literal, is all. Good poetry usually does have several layers of meaning, and yours is no exception. My statement was more out of concern than anything else.
Literally and metaphorically, the message is clear cut. Your poetic skill is as sharp as ever.

Another thought came to mind on this. We all have many thoughts that constantly come and go. This poem seems a turning point - no longer identifying with those thoughts as A definition of who you are, but something you can easily let go of. "

This captured something universal, I think. This really speaks to me about the vulnerability of being human, and the seeming impossible task of healing after heartbreak. Walls go up for protection, but eventually they at least need some opening. The honesty in this is a window, letting in a sliver of light."
