insomnia reigns in black days

By alaskanamber

the shaking is starting again
hands trembling, mouth salivating
sleeping in this closet another night
close my eyes against the voices
a spider runs acoss my legs
frantically brush it away
as I scooch closer into the corner

I haven't slept in 7 days
each time my eyelids droop
I begin to shake and the voices come
they tell me of all the awful
all the horrible things in this world
babies killed before they ever breathe
children molested and beaten
a wife locked in the cellar
her crime burning dinner

Last night the pictures started in my head
now not only do I hear their screams
I can see clearly the terror in their eyes
almost reach out and touch them
always I am too late
the demons arriving before I do
so here I hide trembling and shaking
mesmerized by the motion picture
unable to turn away
my sanity takes flight

Vivid, evocative and bloody frightening! This was brilliantly done, and I really liked the last 2 lines to close the poem with. Write on, Lady..
