Under the influence of unknown drugs
By Lifeless
I have become acutely aware of the hair in my nostrils. I feel each individual
follicle in the chill of the air. Although I know the ground to be wet
from the recent down pour it soaks though my clothes, but I feel no indication
of moisture. The wet cardboard box behind my back I’m leaned up against
is strangely comfortable. It gave in to my weight and molded itself to
my form. The street light's luminescence pulses, igniting the surrounding
haze on fire. There is a strange man across the street from me. He is in
the shadows but I can see that his face is blank and unmoving…his lips
do not move, but I hear the curses he screams at me. How does he know I'm
worthless? Why does he tell me to die? I'm certain I don't know him so
how can he judge me? I don't think I should be here. I want to leave, but
convincing my body to move seems impossible. If I am supposed to be here
I don't know any reason as to why. Where here is and how I came to be here
evades me at this particular moment. A woman stops and turns toward me.
I can't focus on her face as it shakes so rapidly that it is a blur. She
is clad in tight black leather. It may have been her skin. I can't be sure.
As I looked down toward her legs she apparated with the mildest "pop" sound
leaving me the inability to inspect her closer to try and make any determination
about her texture. She left an eye behind it seems. I can't be sure if
it is her right of her left eye. I wish I knew for sure. That question
seems more important to me then the fact that the blurry headed woman has
lost an eye altogether. The eye wriggled as if it felt pain or struggled
to peer my direction. I mildly chuckled at its troubles. My attention was
stolen from the eye by the tongue that had come into view. The fact that
it was the size of a Buick wasn't nearly as interesting as the way in which
it propelled itself forward. Its movements were similar to that of an inch
worm. I have to admit I was sickened by the sound when it made contact
with the asphalt. What I didn't expect was the orange ooze that accompanied
the giant muscle. It suddenly struck me as odd that such a thing could
exist. It only took a moment not to realize there was no reason to ponder
this. After all, the dish ran away with the spoon. It lolled past me and
I decided it wasn't worth another thought. I was anxious to get back to
the eye anyway. I lowered my gaze and to my dismay the eye was gone. I
became infuriated that it was longer available for appraisal.
I inhaled deeply and it took me 37 minutes to sigh. In that time I thought
about a rat on a rotisserie. Just when I thought my skull would implode
with boredom the air in front of me spat and sparked. From a tiny spec
appeared a glow and it increased in size rapidly to confront my eyes with
a flat screen image suspend by nothing. It spat again and sparks flew from
its edges. Color and static washed the surface as if it were trying to
tune in an image. Then I saw the teeth. There were large, flat and had
a wretched, yellow appearance. As the teeth parted and began to open wide,
lips and gums seemed to draw themselves into form surrounding the teeth.
They were awkward and impossibly shaped like no creature I've ever been
aware of. Then the inside of the mouth and esophagus formed. It was the
darkest possible red before turning black. The now completed, sickening
mouth was fully open and was full screen. As the teeth touched the edges
the light surged and vibrated violently. The edged fluttered and expanded
as if fighting to keep the horrid mouth incased. I began to detect a sickening
smell. I noticed a green, iridescent oozing liquid drip from the bottom
edge. It was coming from the mouth. The thick putrid goo flowed over the
bottom row of teeth. The mouth fought for freedom attempting to break the
confines of its captor and, I stopped to think, is it trying to free itself
to eat me? The screen cracked and fell into pieces. Before the glowing
fragments could fall to the ground they flashed then blipped out of existence.
I was now faced with a mouth that was large enough to swallow me whole.
I became horrified and I feared for my life but the only reaction I could
muster was a slight upward turn of the right side of my mouth appearing
as a weak smirk. As I feared it came toward me. It engulfed me. I popped
out of existence.
