The Man Who Wouldn't Save the World

By happilydepressed

I’m running late
But the world can wait
I doubt it if I’ll even show
The world’s debt I do not owe
Even if I did I wouldn’t pay
Let the damn thing rot away
There’s no one I could love
And no demons below nor angels above
Could change my faith
My life in my hands is safe
How can I change the world’s fate
Why would I save the world I hate
I won’t
Don’t ask please don’t
Everyone can die I don’t care
Cries of help I can hear
The end must be beginning
Sounds like it’s almost to the ending
I was to be their hero
But in their time of need, as they cried for help in their face I said no
And they knew
There was nothing I could do
The end came
And there’s no one left to point the blame
So now that they’re all dead
This can go on untold and unread
I’m the man who wouldn’t
I’m the man who couldn’t
Save the world

I crawled out from beneath the ruins
I walked through the piles of ashes which seems to have no ends
Now that is has been done
I’ll walk on pass the horizon
The sun now to my back
It’s still too dark to look back
I look into my reflection in a puddle of their blood and tears
Their cries of help linger in my ears
And although they’re all gone
And I’ve lived on
They should’ve known
Instead of saving their lives I saved my own
It’s hard to regret
When it’s so easy to forget
I don’t think of what I could’ve done
Reasons to save the world, I have none
I never said I would, I never lied
And though it crossed my mind, I never tried
And even though everyone died
I never cried
I’m the man who wouldn’t
I’m the man who couldn’t
Save the world
