Unexplained Things

By mysticventures

I used to sleepwalk often as a young child. My mother had to put a lockbolt at the top of the door to keep me inside at night.
Then one morning she heard me coming in the house around 4am.
In my sleep I had slid a kitchen chair over to the door in order to undo the lockbolt.
My mother was left stunned and wondering how I managed such a feat in my sleep. Where had I been? And for how long?
How many times this had happened she did not know.

At the age of six I had a nightmare.
I was in space - watching the earth move farther and farther away. A blue and white marble in the blackness of space. With a feeling later described as 'sheer terror' overwhelming me.
For years I had this very same nightmare.
It was many years later after telling a friend of these nightmares that he brought up a chilling point.
The earth I had described so vividly from my dreams - was a picture no one on earth had seen until the advent of the space program four years later.

As a child I talked in my sleep.
To my mother is was incoherent mumblings thru the bedroom wall.
To my brother who lay shaking beneath his blanket, it was something more.

As we grew older my brother and I had separate bedrooms.
Many were the nights that I heard my brother crying out for help. I would rush to his room thinking he was asleep and take him to the bathroom to wash his face and wake him up.
It was always the same thing - a bright light had shined into his second floor bedroom window.
It always scared me when he had these nightmares. Yet it never occured to me that I was always up, standing in my room, when these incidents occured.

In the Army I talked in my sleep as well.
My roommates would lay startled in thier bunks, as I carried on nightly conversations in an unknown language.

One day a friend and I decided to record these nightly conversations.
We set up a tape recorder at the head of the bed and pressed the record button and then pause.
I awoke later that night to a growling noise and the sound of someone gasping for air.
Upon opening my eyes, I saw my roommate over me, his eyes bulging in horror. He was gasping for air and trying despirately to release my hands from around his throat.
It was I who was growling.
After we both gained our breath he told me that I had started talking in my sleep and that as planned, he went to release the pause button on the recorder.
He did not succeed.
