The Sovereignty ( my final battle chapter)

By Ophelia

Years have slowly faded
my youth now past
and the hate in my heart by loneliness now shaded.

Once a young and stubborn maiden
proud beyond belief,
with hopes and dreams her soul was laiden.

Replaced now with realizations,
death and battles
create truly great civilizations.

Fears of failure and defeat
finially laid to rest
you never were the warrior I had to beat.

Sitting down this day I pen you a letter,
with ink in quil my true heart I do bare,
knowing nothing I say will make the past any better.

"I saw you that first morn,
from my tower's high window,
looking so battle ready and torn,

My heart beat so fast,
unsure of your intent,
and when you message came at last,

I was defeated and broken
as if from a beautiful fairy tale,
rudely awoken.

Hurt and confussed,
I rashly returned your flag and message,
feeling bruised and abused.

Then facing you in the field,
my head held high
my true feeling I did shield,

With anger and pain
my hostile words
were spoken with grief for all those slain,

In the years since that day,
reports of you have came
of how you morn for a lost love they say,

the one who from that fortress fled,
with pride and head held high,
none of these know of all the tears I shed.

The miles of heartache I traveled
till I came to this unconquerable mountian
were my soul has slowly unraveled.

I offer you now,
my hand in friend ship,
but still to you I will never bow,

In this I sugest a place to start,
nothing more and nothing less
I am offering you the key to my long protected heart."

Needing now to rest,
I called for my messengers,
Telling them to head toward the setting sun in the west,

Look for a mighty fortress,
one made of white stone,
tell the guards you are on a peaceful quest,

Becoming to weak to continue
I laid down my head,
hoping this would find it's way to you.

I watched them ride out of sight
wondering if I had waited to long
Would I still be alive come night.

Closing my eyes
I saw us together,
in a world were love never dies.

(I hope you have all enjoyed this I know I have and in
the future there may be another seiries but I feel this one
has no where else to go)

Man, this poem actually moved me and that is rare. You have described an universal experience so vividly and so accurately that I can't even acurately give it enough praise.

I thougt of a saying that probably bests says what I was feeling. "Poetry is the revelation of a feeling that the poet believes to be interior and personal which the reader recognizes as his own". Salvatore Quasimodo

You can tell the truth. I can't keep up with you. I guess I can't hide my slowness. I agree with SouL, this was one of the better chapters.

I think this one is the best as far as an emotional stance goes. It speaks volumes as to how you stand guarded. Even in a moment of weakness you are still very distant. Thank you and Re, I've enjoyed the whole series. :::OLd

To take what we know now and return to then, fairytales. Can they really come true if you are young at heart? I surely hope so. This got to me, darn you. S.
