xviii: evocation
By Feral
It is not prophecy -
this thing, scarlet and viscus
slithering in the sand at my
feet.
It spewed wetly from my gaping
grin -
a sad monument to the years.
In the conceit of the rising
sun,
my teeth became redundant.
(I alone am at fault)
... Can a pyre built for
a self burn rage enough
burn wild enough
burn spite enough
To slough off the flesh, the
meat,
the contempt, the weeds?
Leaving my bones free to
cast an offering to the stars
mirrored and diffused softly into the waves -
the breaking crest a singular invitation to
my unrelenting yearning
for that place of mythic transition.
Mere survival will not suffice
this time.

I surely know that I'm not - but the answer must be in the attempt, right?

…well. Where can one ever begin? There is always a sudden severity to your writing, whether toward the darkness or light, it is always there, this… immediate and intentional incisiveness. “…scarlet and viscus, slithering in the sand at my feet”. To command the readers attention so forcefully, so completely… it’s quite brilliant, you rascal. evocation, of course, of course… always love your titles, so clever. Moreover, your writes have an elliptical quality for me, like a slow burning star caught in the orbit of an ultra dense black hole. Orbiting, orbiting. Pondering, pondering. Evocations, indeed. That last stanza and closing line…incomparable. “that place of mythic transition…” you slay me, every time. Much love and respect. ~b

Most meaningful changes start from within, transformation is not easy, and releasing, even harder. Cheers.

…this right here…speaks to me on levels that still hurt to talk about…this reminds me of the hungers, the never enoughs, the self-loathings and the dark places that we struggle to crawl out of, before they bury us completely…burn this out of me; I may not be strong enough to face this again and still be me…
