In the Hallway Closet

By Kovine

To leave your beauty
So permanently marred on this plane
It seeps into everything around me

I see your smile
Fading behind my eyes
But it never fully disappears

It’s so easy to conflate my thoughts
With fantasies of you
Ephemeral, holy, and beautiful

Canonized with your stained glass halo
Sealed forever in negatives
Remembered in dust

Buried somewhere deep
In the bag they sealed you in
“Warning: Contains human remains”
