Born Free

By Damien

What does freedom mean
it's not as our fore fathers believed
how many wars do we need
to prove freedom isn't free
freedom of speach
depends on to whom you speak
freedom to live as you see fit
not in a country a trillion in debt
perhaps it can be found off the grid
because freedom isn't free
it doesn't exist in our society
as soon as we begin to trust
what we believe in, owns us

There is an inherent fear of being alone
"no man can exist on his own"
while animals travel in packs or prides
the lone wolf can not survive
there is comfort that only numbers can provide
trading independence for security is a way of life

Man isn't free, never meant to be
because freedom isn't free
and the price is life
we imagine freedom as if it's a dream
tiny fragments of time for relief
societies temporary release
living on the outside gets you ostracized
like the lone wolf from the pack
when did independence become so sad

We build walls between us and them
and spend every moment letting them in
if freedom is privacy
why put our lives on display for all to see
mortgage our future for convience
when luxuries are meaningless
our souls are bleeding
freedom is fleeting
and not what our fore fathers believed in
inside the numbers feels safe
homes we build become our cage
facebook gives you 15 minutes of fame
the freedom you seek
is just an illusion and not for the meek
like the lone wolf outside the pack
when did independence become so sad

I like this piece very much. Straight up from your heart every word written is what you believe. That's the passion that makes a poet. If I had to criticize one thing it's the title have you thought about calling lone wolf
