conflagration spectacle

By Lab Rat

We've come so very far, my old heart

Lost for ever after, tasting the metal in the rain
The rust, flaking delicate off this disaster
The pain, the tarnished memory of trust

Parades bathed in flame, my eyes are closed
I can see the glow,  shadows playing charades
Over curtains drawn, window frames
Fires spread in yearning, and I feel the blame
A tear slips past lashes, as I hear foot falls

As you walk away

Its just our game, our misbehavior
Breathing in the turmoil, fruits still on the vine
Left to spoil, but with eyes open
You can see still, my bleeding failure
Attempts left fractured, torn asunder
And waiting for the kill

Look away, my tender heart
Cast clear eyes, blue as the sky
Away from this, ashen clad festival
Dry in soot and tinder, crackling inferno
Touch not this blaze, follow your voice

And cast this astray
This heart of char
