Tiny pleadings

By cadymae

I am neither greedy nor hopeful
That what you offer is better than
What I've tasted before
Your despair will be colored rusty-blue like everyone else's.

                                    * * *

You are not fighting your drowning anymore.
It seems quiet down there, doesn't it?

Your feeble flailings at success amounted to not much after all anyway.
Rest.

                                    * * *

Do you think they can smell the relief in the air when they pass by without harvesting anyone?
I  wonder if they like that smell?
I wonder if they bother to like anything?

                                    * * *

Even so, only the truly weak offer their flesh also.
Most lizard-minds have some semblance of self-preservation.
