Anatomy Of A Bad Situation

By carlosjackal

Cooler than a Camden cocksure
East boy swagger fist with the
Split-atom irises
Of a wounded animal
Holding my tongue
Like a gentleman
It's the chops
That gets me
To the punch

And jealousy
Always makes a mess of me
As I'm stuck
To the bloodied feathers
Of a heartless girl's
Endeavours
Switchblade nails
In my skin
Still sever

Love won't recover
My innocence and
I can't break
Tuesday morning
So it's a red light
Above a sunset roof
Where pretty pretty irises
Protect
Soothe
And I'm nowhere
But in her soul's embrace

Oh senor Los... This is so excellent. The second to last stanza is heavy and marvellous. It's all amazing but that one just sings.

'Cooler than a Camden cocksure' - yes mate! Camden is basically home - I went to school there and go out there loads .. You have a very unique phrasing which is familiar and yet not quite known to me - ''Love won't recover my innocence'" - excellent! Pleasure to read you again - hope it's okay to say .. I think you're writing has come along somewhat, or maybe my reading of it has. Also, finally, I really like 'holding my tongue... To the punch'

I particularly liked how this was written; although it reminds me of this pretentious harlot that I owe a brick in the face to. .clinches fist. Great write, sir. Scholar

So amazing when a poet can reach another this way, without even trying or intending to do so. Past relationships certainly have a way of affecting current relationships. It's like an infection we have to treat....we have to drain that pus to continue seeking whatever form of soothing & protection we can get. We seek sanctuary, wherever or whenever we can find it, if only to vaguely remember that innocence, which we never do. It seems lost forever, yet dreamers like you & I still try. I get a little glimmer now & again, & that will have to do. Some wounds just don't heal properly, some flowers just don't grow back. I'm betting that soul's embrace there at the end is in the form of a prostitute, but for me this speaks to something further down in my heart & soul. We all must FIND our own way, IN our own way, & in our own time. Powerful stuff here, Carlos.... Scholar
