To Become Your Friend

By Peyton1

On the internet, just the other day--
You said in your status you were sad:
To that, I have something to say--
And I hope you will not be mad.

I dont know you well at all, just yet--
I've not even began to scratch the surface:
As you see, since we've only just met--
I'm still trying to get past being nervous.

But if I am, To become your friend--
Please correct me if I'm wrong:
A task included, is to help your feelings mend--
So your heart may sing a brighter song.

Often it takes simply a short phrase--
If always it comes from the heart:
To insure sadness never for long stays--
Perhaps that is how friendship should start.

We've all been through allot in life, it's true--
And I know for each of us, there's difference:
But when you're sad, and want back the real you--
A friend can manage that task, in an instance.

My wishes for you are easy to understand--
By now it should be quite clear:
To become your friend, no slight of hand--
A chance to add joy in the upcoming years.

I feel now, I must plant a tree--
I'll do it quickly, maybe this night:
To atone for all the paper you can't see--
Of this, my first poem, took much to write.

I hope I've managed to put a smile on your face--
That's what a friend should always try to do:
With luck even made your heart a happier place--
Because happy, I'm sure, brings out the best you!
