Noxious Majesty

By lupus tenebrae

A poinsettia basks in winter's
mute radiance,
clasping the lukewarm tendrils

of sunlight foolish enough to stray
from their rigid course: petals,
rendered a luminous crimson,

its noxious majesty turned
brilliant with the essence
of its unwitting prey.
