Sheepish

By mikeygreenleaf

Voices, voices in my walls
Singing as the darkness falls
Lullabies lull me to sleep
Counting herds of blackened sheep
One by one they jump a fence
Mindless of their consequence
I wish that I could be as free
Of terror as they seem to be
A growing flock of endless pain
Should weary underneath my strain
To blend is order in their minds
Until you're trapped inside of mine
That's where all the fun begins
The shepherds sacrifice my sins
Absolving me of any crime
Committed in this nursery rhyme
Release their blood to altar me
Fire cleansed for purity
Crying out I'm sorry sheep!
My sea of sins so very deep
Sanctified by holy blade
Heavens penance has been paid
How noble tis to die for me
My soul free of discrepancy

The pace and the rhyme merge to give the reader a placid read, but the topic you speak of makes it quite interesting. Good work!

  • A former member wrote: Strange concept for me that the sacrifice is absolving you of your sins rather than adding to your crimes. This made it interesting for me, thanks for the read.
