Melted in the pot

By cadymae

All the lives lived
In houses that are no more

The Mid century Italian weddings
With bad hair and good shoes

The early 50s jukehouses
Full of sturdy black legs lindy hopping

The knee socks and hair bows
Of thin WASP girls
who curled their hair on OJ cans

While their parents were frightened
Of the Papist bidding for the White House

They shouldn`t have worried
Assimilation killed us all
