Glass Mercedes

By Numbers Peppelini

Hollowed interminably

sustenance waning

with every toke

from her glass Mercedes

Ultimately infatuated

blessedly inebriated

girl inhales strawberry dreams

through snot bubbles

Non existential astronaut

her frontal lobe takes a back seat

to the mouth full of tongues

twisting in her belly

She is ready now to see you

dead eyes blackened like a serpent

raking her skull

from a place of concealment

crude oil spills out from both ears

blood from years ago and far off places

quivering like a choir boy

devoured by a great white of deity

unpardonable white froth

tucked at each corner of her mouth

inner child now oozing down both thighs

expiration of her exhalation revoked

Holy. Each line is a microcosm in itself. I am viscerally perturbed, but satisfied with that. I love words that give rise to an internal battle and unite me with the characters in a way I could never unite with the characters I meet in person. You are impressive.

How much of oneself can be lost before it's no longer worth one more immediate fix? This piece reads like the downfall of a close friend: it's obvious they're sinking at a faster rate, but there's nothing you can do to slow their descent. Clearly, the verse of a skilled hand. Scholar
