a driftwood spirit

By FadedBlues

a driftwood spirit

the passion inside me was rudely misnamed
the flame of love sparked to a burning lust
and scattered behind, on my dusty trail
remnants of broken hearts and busted trust.

dark hair that hangs in matted strings
unfinished work of draconian art
a man whose soul was sold long ago –
a man who never had a heart.

my scandals drift upon hellion winds
I’ve trampled white roses in fits of rage
I’ve slaughtered a unicorn to feed my hunger
the bird of paradise died in my cage.

my cheroot is ignited by lightning
I roar with the thunder that knows me
I sing the refrain of the murderous rain
and I dance with the wind and she blows me.

cold blue lies will cataract your eyes
my kiss, meant to poison; my hands, to slay
beware the lovesong that beckons you near –
if you see my shadow, run away! run away!
