Friendly beast

By Stephanie Sideways

I didn't have a head of poetry
When you met me
It wasn't part
of how you knew me
And I don't understand from where it grew
But it grows wild
Wild and free
Like a freedom seeking refugee
It grows wild but I won't weed it
It spurts profusely but I won't stitch it
It gets confused but I understand it

You liken it to being possessed
But If I abstain
its like I am wearing a restraint vest
I hide inside it
dug out in the ground
Then surface
bathing in the lite and profound

You knew, didn't you
That I wouldn't freeze in time ?
You accept with film lapse trickery
every new 'laughter' line
You accept all that gravity
won't leave behind
So please don't be
the head wind against this hike of my mind

The forward motion of life propels it
I would crash without it
I can't breathe without it

It's the updated me
or a new inner coat of paint
Its not trying to intimidate
It's a job to control
but it is no beast
I don't think it is
at least............?

I love how you open yourself up! It is a wonderful reminder that we are all gifted and need to share them with others and be proud of them. I'm glad you share your talents with us! :)

Every now and then my wife will give me some guff, and my counter argument is that at least I'm not sitting next to her like a zombie couch potato watching the telly! Then I'll read her a few pieces until she runs away screaming. Cheers Stephy and you nailed it with this one too!
