Soul Survivor

By Winter Rose

They knock on the windows
They rattle my door
This was my safe place
But not anymore

I'm curled up in the corner
Crying silent tears
I'm not safe anywhere
Not this close to my fears

I scream and cry and call for help
But I know no one can hear me
I believe I'm the only one left
Why else would they send their army?

They're getting so close now
'Oh Help me lord!' I beg and plead
Though what did he care?
I'm only a lost cause that he won't need

I feel the Demons approach
They broke my spells and now are free
Their screams and cries of triumph
Like blades searing through me

I curl in on myself, moaning softly
I knew what was to happen now
They'd carve out my soul and use my body
That was something I could not allow

I always knew this day was coming,
They thought I wasn't prepared
But you see I always have this little pill
Inside the locket I was forced to wear

They crawled up to me,
Just sneering and laughing
I stood up and grinned,
They didn't know what was coming

U unlocked my precious pill
I showed it off like I had jewels
I swallowed it quick and watched their fury
I played them all like fools

My body slumped
My heart stopped its beat
They'll never have me
I won't admit defeat

My mind goes black
I can still hear their chatter
It feels so sad and lonely
To watch your whole world shatter

My poor little Winter Rose
She was so strong and bold
But sadly they came and killed her
At least, that's what I'm told......

Love the title, Great story telling, the real pain of feeling no way out, was so vivid. Nice job

Escape at all costs into what I wonder? Someplace better or just another place traded maybe, with a whole new set of demons. Much enjoyed for some reason, thanks!

Beautiful and morbid. The verses flow with languid tranquillity, yet ferocious at the same time. The last stanza from a third person's perspective adds greatly for a soul shattering ending.
