Shattered

By alesana

standing on the soft grass
I look ahead and take my first  step
onto the burning coals
I don't wince
my tears fall, searing and disappearing
hissing my dreams away
I step from here to broken glass
staining it red with my life
staining it black with my hate
I take into my hand
a single shard
and draw it across my throat
my body falling
into these pieces
slicing away my pain
